Although Gold describes the film as a documentary, this is more fun and much less preachy than your standard documentary. Gold first takes us back before the “talkies” where we see people with physical disabilities portrayed as inhabitants of a carnival freak show or as a quadruple amputee slithering on his belly. Cut to Eddie Murphy in “Trading Places” pushing himself on a cart to pass as a blind, crippled beggar until busted by the police. Are people with disabilities to be pitied, reviled or mistrusted? Are “they” trying to get one over on the big “normal” world?
